Exercise by Skating With One Foot Out

When you decide to learn the art of snowboarding, you will have to learn how to maneuver around the slopes of a hill with one foot out. If you do not learn this basic snowboarding technique, you will fail to understand how to pressure your board correctly during the beginner stages of your progression.

It is also important for you to learn the art of getting on and off the chair lift when you have a single foot strapped in. However, this shall be discussed later. When you stand in a stationary position, with a single foot strapped in and your rear foot standing on the snow behind the edge of the heel, you will have to learn to slowly slide your front foot forward. Exercise on Straight Slide and Skate on the Board

This exercise will require you to stand in the starting position with the rear foot on the snow. You will have to start skating forward. However, give yourself a big push with your rear foot on the snow and then place it back on the stomp. You will have to make sure that you stand in your basic stance with your weight on the front foot and slowly glide the board until it comes to a full stop.

Climbing Exercises for Snowboarding Beginners

This exercise or technique will help you climb small hills when there is a need to go from point A to point B. sometimes while snowboarding, you may find yourself losing speed and the need to unstrap one foot in order to climb a hill so that you can carry on.

Here is a simple way to do it. Start by standing in the starting position. However, this time you will have to face your snowboard across the fall line. Step forward with the help of your rear foot so that it lands on the snow right above the toe edge. Gradually, bring the snowboard up to meet the heel of the foot, which is already in the snow. Dig your toe edge in and simply repeat this process. Take a step forward and then bring the board up to the back of your foot, which is already planted in the snow.

Exercise for Straight Glide with Speed

After mastering the art of climbing, it is now time to practice the straight glide technique once again. However, this time you will have to add some amount of speed to the technique. It is important for you to remember that you need to perform this exercise when there is no chance for you to slide away down the hill with no natural stopping point. To put things simply, you need to practice this in the beginner learning area to stay controlled and safe.

In order to perform this beginner snowboarding technique, you will have to climb up a small hill and then face the board down the fall line. Stand once again in your stationary stance and slowly place the rear foot on the stomp pad of the board and get back in your basic stance.

Most of you may wonder what a “J” turn technique is all about. It is how snowboarders slow down when just a single foot is strapped onto the snowboard. This beginner snowboarding technique will basically teach you how to apply pressure on the nose of your snowboard in the right way. This will allow you to learn the art of slowing down and finally stopping while getting off a chairlift on a mountain.

This exercise will demand the use of both the edges of your snowboard. While performing this exercise do not make the mistake of leaning too much. You need to stand up tall, look, and also point in the direction you wish to travel.
