Shape Concept

For Völkl, the shape of a board does not only consist of the negative or positive camber, but is a combination of the core, the sidecut, the flex and the tips shape – individually adjusted to every board and its area of operation. As a result, the sidecut of a rocker shape offers a smaller radius in the nose and tail area, making Völkl boards with rocker convince even on icy slopes. In similar fashion the core is adjusted to the shape. In contrast to camber boards, the thickness of the wooden core of a rocker board increases towards the nose and tail, making for a stiffer flex in these areas of the board, since they are already concave enough and do not need extra flex. Furthermore, this specific construction prevents ‘over-flexing’ - the feeling of rolling over backwards. Also hybrids constructions, combining a camber shape between the bindings with a rocker on nose and tail, have their focus on a consistently smooth curve without kinks. This guarantees even distribution of power and pressure as well as optimal precision, even at high speeds.

Rocker / Reverse Camber Shapes

Rocker’ is an established term in boardsports to describe board shapes with ‘negative’ (reverse) camber, where the boards has a single middle contact point rather than two as ‘conventional’ (positive) cambers do. All Völkl rocker boards are in fact flat on the ground between the bindings, with the rocker concave beginning behind the inserts for all models. Although the length of the flat bits between nose and tail varies according to shape profile and intended use, nose and tail are floating in the air. This provides rocker or ‘Reverse Camber’ shapes with better float in powder and a playful, easy turning feeling, without compromising edge hold or precision of the turns.

Freestyle Rocker Shape

This shape is also flat between the bindings, with moderate rocker in the nose and tail, which makes jibs and butters a walk in the park. Since the edge doesn’t bite immediately, edge-catching slams are things of the past. It also features enhanced float, the perfect savior for bombed out landings and flat powder slopes!

Flat Rocker Shape

This board is flat between the bindings and has minimal rocker in the nose and in the tail, which makes the board mellow on the slope, with its full potential unfolding in the backcountry and the park. This makes these boards super easy to handle while extremely lively and forgiving. The perfect shape for newcomers to the rocker technology as they still get to carve on the slopes, without catching edges or getting stuck in powder.

Camber Shapes

Camber Boards’ are shapes that incorporate a classic, positive camber with two contact points at the nose and tail. In between those contact points, the board is bowed providing the board with a snap for ollies and responsiveness in all snow conditions. Hence camber boards are especially suitable for a more direct and aggressive riding style and high speeds.

Pro Camber Shape

These boards, with a very strong camber, are best for advanced riders. With extreme pop for freestyle moves in the pipe and on huge kickers, they guarantee maximum edge hold, smoothness and direct response.

Pro Camber Shape with Nose Rocker / AFC

With their strong camber, these shapes are especially suited for advanced riders and everyone who is into high speed. The rocker in the nose of the board shortens the contact edge, which improves the board’s agility allowing speed checks even in the steepest faces. Furthermore the early rise of the nose improves float in powder and provides faster gliding characteristics.

Freestyle Camber Shape

This shape combines a medium camber with a early rise nose and tail. The short contact length makes the board forgiving and allows its easy-to-turn characteristics, which can be of great advantage in the park. When riding on the edge the Freestyle Camber Shape just rides like a normal Camber board.

Easy Camber Shape

This smooth camber shape combines an early rise in nose and tail with less camber. This shortens the contact length, making the board a little more playful without loosing the prime grip and response of a classic camber shape. It is a great option for beginners keen on perfecting their technique as it’s not as loose as a rocker shape.
