The Anti-Vibrations-System noticeably absorbs all kinds of bumps and shocks. Special rubber / gel layers are directly integrated into the topsheet so the bindings can stay put without having to be raised. Völkl’s Race Lab developed a special sidecut concept for the Coal Race Edition. The Pin-Tail Shape with its shortened nose and concave tail might look strange to a greenhorn, but when it is all about racing the smooth tip and tail rocker and its big radius make sense. The result? The apparently shorter edge smoothens speed checks, while the board feels extremely playful on jumps and bumps; at the same time you are blessed with great edge hold and perfect control at maximum speed.

In racing, the performance makes the difference. A normal sidewall slows down on turns and when riding hard on the edge. That’s why we developed a special Race Sidewall for the Coal that is made of the same sintered material as the base. Actually, it is kind of an extension of the base as the sidewall, too, can now be waxed according to the temperature of the snow – in a race fractions of seconds count!

Located between the upper and lower beams on the board’s sides is an ABS synthetic sidewall which has been integrated to directly transmit pressure from the binding onto the edge without loss of power. This special fiberglass weave has fibers that have been positioned at a 45° angle (+45° / -45°) in addition to running nose to tail. Depending on the density of the woven fiber, torsion and flex are enhanced without influencing the wood core’s thickness. This reduces weight, which delivers responsiveness and better edge grip.

We know that a base composite made from the best materials is the secret behind the fastest and easiest to maintain bases. What’s in there? As mentioned above, this is our secret… We will tell you one thing: the extraordinarily abrasion-resistant side strips are made of P-Tex 20188.

A diamond finish is now standard on all our boards. The edges are ground so that they extend 1° down from the base and 1° out from the sides. The diamond finish not only makes the edges more durable but also provides maneuverability and great edge hold in icy conditions.

In addition to the stone finish our top boards also acquire a structural finish. The structure’s special flat pound pattern accelerates the board within the first few feet. For maximum speeds don’t forget to brush the base structure after waxing! It’s done best with continuous strokes from tip to tail, applying light, constant pressure.
