Topsheet is not just topsheet! Traditional boards feature a plastic topsheet and the graphics get "back-screened" with topside silk-screening. Using the No-Topsheet Construction, the graphics get printed "from above" onto a thin fleece weave, thanks to a specific process, and then get grouted with the board. A minimal amount of resin seals the fleece topsheet, protecting it against scratches. This complex construction not only reduces weight, but also disclaims unnecessary plastic and protects the environment.

Our Tip-to-Tail Supreme Woodcore is made of strips of Aspen-Falcatta wood with four strips of Falcatta being integrated in the Aspen core. Combining these gives the core the best dampening and flex properties, providing outstanding performance.

Unlike a conventional sandwich construction, the Slim-Tip Construction incorporates a solid and shock-absorbing urethane inlay in the nose and tail sections instead of ABS sidewall material. This consists of one single hard wood layer. It is not milled into the core but inserted where the core tapers down. Together with a V-Flex inlay the Shock Absorber makes the board stronger with better torsion properties.

Perfect for all-mountain riders who feel as at home in the park as in the backcountry! The more moderate, directional sidecut has been tuned to work perfectly with a setback of 20 mm. Therefore the boards ride more direct and allow fast edge-to-edge turning. The shape and its playful riding characteristics are the best buddy for freestyle moves in the park, while the longer nose offers more flotation in powder. Nose and tail are not identical but these boards can also be ridden with a setback of 0 mm.

This rocker is longer and more concave in the nose than in the tail, which results in maximum float in powder. In the backcountry it offers you playful riding characteristics without sacrificing grip and precise edge-to-edge turns.

Generally you’re dealing with one of three insert systems: 4x4, 5x2 or 6x2. With a 4x4 system, the inserts are 4 cm apart. With the 5x2 and 6x2 Insert Systems, the insert rows are separated by 2 cm only. This way the stance can be set more exactly – down to the precise centimeter. The 6x2 Insert System is specifically employed in our top freestyle boards to offer individual binding placement. Adjustments on binding discs will be limited to the centering of bindings.

Lab tests showed that wooden sidewalls have a more balanced flex curve than conventional ABS sidewalls without sacrificing stability! Völkl’s wooden sidewalls consist of several connected layers of strong armor wood – a stunning visual feature! A complex special impregnation process protects the wood against moisture and the effects of Mother Nature. Brand-new: a dampening layer made of shock-absorbing PU in between sidewall and edge. This TPU dampening is a thermal-plastic polyurethane which is especially flexible.

Located between the upper and lower beams on the board’s sides is an ABS synthetic sidewall which has been integrated to directly transmit pressure from the binding onto the edge without loss of power. The board gives a very responsive feel, providing maximum edge grip and the smoothest ride possible.

The environment benefits from this veneer inlay and so does your performance. The inlay strengthens the woodcore in the upper and lower layer on the full length of the board. This provides more pop and lively riding characteristics, while at the same time reducing the amount of fiberglass and therefore doing something good for our planet.

This special fiberglass weave has fibers that have been positioned at a 45° angle (+45°/-45°) in addition to running nose to tail. Depending on the density of the woven fiber, torsion and flex are enhanced without influencing the wood core’s thickness. This reduces weight, which delivers responsiveness and better edge grip.

The V-Flex weave is a triaxial fiberglass weave with increased fiber density. The special V-form reinforces the area around the bindings, producing improved flex and torsion properties. It also provides optimal distribution of power to the edge of the board. This provides better stability when strain and forces are strong.

Carbon fibers in the lower beam make the board stronger and livelier. The carbon fibers’ tensile strength allows for very short response times. In addition, the high-class, specifically made Völkl Premium Carbon incorporates lengthwise fiberglass strips. This weave considerably enhances the board’s torsional stiffness, pop and liveliness. Depending on the required riding characteristics and the amount of carbon, Völkl has developed four different POP Carbon inlays. One permanent strip, plus two short V-shaped Völkl Premium Carbon strips each embedded in nose and tail.

Whatever’s left over from the regular base production gets processed into pellets, which we grind and sinter. The resulting bases made of off-cuts and by-products offers the same high quality as a regular base, but gives our planet some love.

Our ultrasound cutting machine cuts out differently colored pieces of the base, which are then manually put together like a jigsaw. A combination of multi-colored base components gives the design individuality and character.

These constructions’ special features include elevated sidewalls while the base is rounded down on the sides towards the edges – it seems as if the edges were floating in the air without even touching the rail. No more edge-catching slams, just more fun onboard! Boards with these bases are particularly playful and forgiving while they offer massive flotation in powder due to reduced flow resistance.

After positive tests in our Race Lab, all Völkl boards now get a finish with HOLMENKOL's “Natural Wax”. Good news for all riders who are looking for a biological wax with excellent gliding characteristics. It doesn’t include paraffin, is made of sustainable resources and biodegradable. Those who want to take extra care of their boards with a green consciousness, can buy HOLMENKOL's “Natural Wax” in normal packaging sizes in the specialized trade.
