- I don’t compete that often
You probably have a nickname - please tell us the story behind it.
Yep, my nickname is “Kame”. The story behind is more or less a family tradition thing. My grandparents once owned a restaurant called “Kame” and from there on every family member became a “Kame” somehow.
Do you remember your first day on a snowboard?
About eleven years ago my sister and I got a board for Christmas. We had to share the board so it was one run for her than one for me. We were both pretty stoked about our new toy - and we still are!
How did you learn new tricks back in the days?
Back then there was hardly anyone around to give you some inspiration. But when I got hold of some magazines I knew what to do. So school was for enjoying the magazines and the afternoons for trying the tricks that were shown.
Why have you never stopped snowboarding since then?
Before I started snowboarding I was into this ski racing thing, training and competing; but after a while couldn’t stand it any more. Snowboarding was just different, it offered so many new possibilities to have fun which skiing didn’t. And you could go on both sides! That was the main reason!
You probably have visited a bunch of different ski resorts already. What’s your favourite place, what was the most exotic and where would you like to live and ride in the future?
I don’t have a favourite place. I prefer the higher resorts which get you over 2500 m. It’s just a matter of conditions and what Mother Nature shapes for us. The most exotic ski resort must have been in NZ, with those crazy birds that were eating up my binding straps. In the future I have no clue where I’ll be. I really enjoy every time of the year in the mountains and lakes of the Alps but since I started surfing I see myself somewhere on the seaside trying to catch some waves.
You also must have seen tons of snowboard videos in the past. What’s your favourite video part and why do you remember it?
Nicolas, Gigi, Wolle, and all these guys got it going! I enjoy video parts that show snowboarding at its purest. No rails, just pow!
Let us know about your favourite trick! Do you have any specials in your trick bag?
I like methods, hell, yeah! And jibbing in the pow, just floating around. Specials? I have a backside seven with flip, something like Andy Wiig does. Something like a special.
What do you like most about Völkl Snowboards?
In the last three seasons I didn’t break a single board! Super good quality!
What about entertainment? Let us know about your gigabytes of MP3s and videos!
About 20 gigs of music and some movies. Usually I watch them once and get rid of them. I keep my books.
How do you make your stomach happy? You must have some favourite drinks and food?
That’s the only reason why I would like to become rich! Just to have the possibility to afford every kind of restaurant in the world and try them all out! There is just one thing food definitely has to be: fresh!
What was your best experience in life so far?
Life is really in our own hands and what you see is just what you want to see. Don’t forget about that and you’ll be ready to shape your own dreams! Life’s somehow difficult but the best thing to happen.
And finally what is your biggest dream?
Besides becoming a food maniac I would like to see people showing more respect of themselves, of others, and of nature. It’s becoming more and more important that we get along and solve serious problems together!
