Martin on the fast lane

Martin Noerl becomes one of the top riders in the European Snowboard Cross. A third place in the final ranking of the SBX European Cup secures Martin a ticket for the Snowboard Cross World Cup season 2012/13.

After a very successful winter, the 18 year old Martin Nörl from Adlkofen (Germany) managed to gain one of the top positions in the Snowboard Cross European Cup – a third place in the final ranking.

In the last race of the European Cup that took place in Lenk/ Switzerland, Martin became fourth and sixth in both qualifying heats. This secured him the third place in the final ranking of the SBX European Cup 2012 and results in a fixed starting position for the upcoming World Cup races.

A surprise if you look back to the start of Martin's season: In January he could qualify for all finals but then didn't advance beyond the quarter finals which left him at position 20 in the ranking. But he grew stronger with every contest and wasn't eliminated early anymore in any European Cup contest. He became second once and finished seven times in the top 10.

"It's a great feeling to gain yourself a starting position in the World Cup"", says Martin. "I was able to improve my performance during the season and my third place is a great progression compared to last year's 10th place. In the European Cup, more than 100 riders are fighting for points and it was one of my dreams to reach the top one day."

Omar Visintin from Italy is the second Völkl team rider placed in the top 5 in the SBX European Cup, he became 4th with 1700 points. Maybe the great results can be linked to the lightning-swift Coal Race, the riders' favorite weapon of choice!?!
