Interview

How do your buddies yell at you? Any story behind your nickname?

They simply call me Mortl, the Bavarian word for Martin.

What kind of rider are you? How do you see yourself?

My favourite sport is snowboard cross – I love it! And I like all kinds of snowsport: PPP: Powder, parks and pipes.

What do you like most about Völkl Snowboards and what is the most important product feature for you?

The new Völkl Race Coals are weapons in SBX! Fast, best practice in carving in front of the kickers and very important: an exact performance at the landing point. I have the feeling, I can trust in my timing because I can trust in my board.

Völkl says “COAL XT: A maximum dose of high-tech for all speed junkies” – its true: Look at the ceremonies of sbx-races: Völkl is on the podium!

And I love my cool functional fashion: I hate it to catch a cold or to sweat too much and I want to feel dry in my clothes – that ´s Völkl!

How was your last season? What was happening?

I had a very good season – I am 17 years old, I won some national races and was starting two times in Worldcup and several times in Europacup – and I have no injuries yet. A wonderful season! My last race was sbx-junior world championships in Valmalenco: I was first in qualification and in the final races I got the 5th place!

What’s your favourite spot / resort / mountain?  Why?

My training areas are at the mountains round Oberstdorf/Bavaria and Austria´s glaciers - I like to see and enjoy new resorts during our racing season.

The Nebelhorn near Oberstdorf is cool, this year we got a new pipe and I like it to ride in deep powder there.

How do you progress, learn new tricks? How do you train?

I watch good riders, imagine what they do and I try the trick.  And I love it do participate in several sport-disciplines: Mountainbiking, Surfing; Skiing; Inline-Alpine and Soccer:

Any favourite/signature trick/grab at the moment?

Backside air, an old school trick, rideable at every kicker.

You have for sure been on some roadtrips so far. Where is the best place to be and ride? Why?

Norway is my favourite place; in Geilo there are a lot of parks round the skiing area.

What stuff do you always make sure is in your backpack when you head up to ride or travel?

My laptop, my handy and very important: good food!

What is your biggest dream?

To start at the Olympic Games and at the X- Games in the next years.

What are your future plans – what’s up next in snowboarding and your private life?
